Brooks' mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives. |
If you are up for laughs, Blazing Saddles is sure to satisfy your cravings for those "rhythmic diaphragmatic contractions". This absolutely ridiculous parody of the western genre, keeps you laughing while embracing and hugely enhancing all the stereotypes and clichés of the old productions. [...]
By some considered immoral, the genius of this Mel Brooks film, as you will usually find with his creations, lies precisely in its complete and utter absurdity. Now who can argue with that?
Furthermore, it is a movie that is able to most successfully "break the fourth wall", or rather, completely obliterate it, and does so while actually knocking down a few literal walls as well. This film's realization of itself, goes to the point where by the end of the picture, your are not even sure if you are watching a movie, or a "behind the scenes" reel.
And of course, one cannot fail to mention the strong and hilarious cast by which Blazing Saddles is brought to life, with Cleavon Little delivering a delightful performance as main character Bart, the hugely funny and recurring Mel Brooks collaborator Gene Wilder as the eccentric Jim, Harvey Korman with his absolutely hysterical Hedley Lamarr, and two totally ridiculous performances from Brooks himself.
