Snatch: Intricate comedic gem

After the already great Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, Guy Ritchie's Snatch is a clear evolution for him, even if it shows great influence from the former.

Snatch, quite a journey

Ritchie's previous film seems like a build-up to this more developed and polished creation. While he moved a bit away from his early style in his more recent movies, Snatch probably remains the culmination of his work. With an intelligent plot(s), it completely absorbs the viewer, and is also sure to provide quite a few laughs with its amusing moments. [...]

The plot goes back and forth through the characters, creating connections, and switching their positions with respect to the story, throughout the feature. Main character Turkish, played by Jason Statham, always sees himself in less than ideal situations, and ends up doing "the last thing he wants to do", though he doesn't seem too phased by it, with his usual "keeping it cool" Statham style. Brad Pitt, on the other hand, has a more dynamic role, in his very funny Gypsy character, mumbling around in some language they call english, while believing he is being perfectly clear. The cast in general is really great, but is too extensive to be elaborated upon individually, so I'll leave it at that.

Furthermore, Snatch enjoys some superb editing, which is sure to get you hooked from the very beginning, and is able to keep the dynamic of the film with its precise timing. While it is a very visual film, both in a comedic sense and as a medium of storytelling, it also counts on some of the greatest dialog one can think of.

This is really an all-round great movie, that set's the standard for many others that followed, and many still to come. A definite "must watch" for any film aficionado.
